Joe William Carmichael died Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 at the age of 90.
In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout, and attended Boys State and Boy’s Nation. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Architecture and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. As an adult, he was a member of Bestor G. Brown Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, Midian Shrine, American Legion, and was active in AIA, CSI, Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society. He also served on the Examination Committee for the NCARB and Kansas Board of Technical Professions, as Scout Master and a Trustee at Grace Presbyterian Church. Joe served as an officer in the US Army and Army Reserve from 1946, retiring as a Captain in the Reserves in 1962, having received the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal and helped rebuild war-torn Germany.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James “Guy” and Sylvia Carmichael; brother, John Carmichael.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Saille Carmichael; sons, John (Cheryl) Carmichael, Theron Carmichael, Dahl (Joy) Carmichael; grandchildren, Tiffany Phillips, Trenton Carmichael, James Carmichael; great-grandchildren, Tianna, Jiovanni, Raelynne, Dorian.
Graveside Service will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Topeka, Kans.. A memorial Gathering will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at Grace Presbyterian Church.
