Jack H. Sawyer, a resident of Tonkawa and former Henryettan, died Nov. 28, 2018. Jack was born July 2, 1943 in Henryetta where he grew up and graduated high school in 1961. After graduating he moved to Oklahoma City and married Loretta Simmons on April 19, 1963. He worked at American Optical for 29 years. In 1978,he rededicated his life to Christ. He entered into ministerial studies at Oklahoma Baptist University in 1980 and graduated magna cum laude in 1984. Upon graduation he began his Southern Baptist ministry where he pastored six different churches until he retired in 2004. After he retired from the ministry he became a hospice chaplain for several years.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Bernel and Eula (Peters) Sawyer.
Survivors include his wife Loretta; his brother, Bernel and wife Sharon (Mordecai) Sawyer; sons: George and wife Carol (Davis) Sawyer, Steven and wife Christine (Snyder) Sawyer; grandchildren: Sara Sawyer, Shelby Sawyer, Spencer Sawyer, Austin Sawyer, and Anna Sawyer; nephew, Billy (William) Sawyer; and niece Amy (Sawyer) Gill.
Family and friends can view Jack at Trout Funeral Home in Tonkawa Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 11 and 12, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m..
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Tonkawa. The casket will be closed at the funeral ceremony. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery west of Tonkawa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a hospice of your choice.
