Henryetta schools had an increased police presence Wednesday morning following a rumor that a shooting would happen.
Chief Steve Norman said the rumors started after a student was expelled Tuesday.
“We were told about the alleged statement and even made contact with the student involved,” Norman said. “He told us that no such statement had been made.”
As a precaution, police officers were stationed in their cars around the school buildings.
“We take these things seriously and contacted police once we heard about it,” school superintendent Dwayne Noble said. He added the schools would be lock-down mode during most of the day. An all-call message was being prepared Wednesday morning to go out to parents.
As reports of the threat circulated on social media sites, several parents opted to keep theri children home for the day.
This year a police officer has also been part of the school scene to ensure student safety.
