State Sen. Roger Thompson has been given the Guardian of Free Enterprise Award from the State Chamber of Commerce for his legislative initiatives and leadership in the Oklahoma State Senate. The awards ceremony was held December 4 in Oklahoma City.
Sen Thompson honored by State ChamberChamber President and CEO Fred Morgan applauded Thompson’s service and achievements in the Legislature.
“Since he was elected in 2014, Senator Thompson has fought for transparency, accountability and efficiency in government. He authored legislation for line item budgeting, which ensures appropriated funds are allocated effectively and promotes honest dialogue when budgets are being determined. Line item budgeting is an important component of the OK2030 agenda, and we at the State Chamber applaud him for his leadership and tenacity on financial issues that affect our state’s prosperity,” Morgan said.
Thompson will chair the Senate Appropriations Committee during the 57th Legislature. He thanked Morgan and the Chamber for the recognition.
“I believe we can best promote job creation, economic growth and prosperity by staying true to the principals of fiscally conservative policy. That means doing all we can to be transparent throughout the appropriations process and ensure every single dollar is scrutinized and prioritized in a way that best meets the needs of our state as a whole,” said Thompson, R-Okemah. “I’m grateful for the Chamber’s recognition and support, and look forward to working with our local chambers and business leaders as well in the next four years.”
