Incoming HHS football coach Lance Beck gave Lions club members a peek into his plans for the Knights next season.
Meeting Tuesday at noon, Beck said he wants to instill core values within the team. “That’s the biggest part of it. It’s not just for the football program but as a human being,” he said.
“Knights wear armor and that will be what I use as an acronym.”
He broke it down with A for Attitude. “We will be all in. Not just with the football program but also within the community. R is for respect for each other, the teachers, parents and coaches. M stands for motivation. The players must be committed to the profess and have to have the motivation to fight. O is for obedience so players will be committed to their school work. They are student athletes. R for resilience. How many times have you been knocked down, not only on the football field but also in the game of life. You have to keep your eye on the price and when you are knocked down, get back up.”
Even though he has not officially started at Henryetta, Beck said he has been meeting with students here to get them enthused about being in the football program. He had a meeting Wednesday afternoon for the high school and scheduled another meeting for the middle school boys. “I want to get them excited about being in Henryetta football.”
Beck said he is a believer in conditioning his team. “I told the kids they will lift so much this summer, they will go home and sleep. They will be exhausted. That is what sets you part. When all other teams are gassed out in the fourth quarter, we will be going strong.”
He also wants to get the students involved in the community to help build pride there as well. “Doing community service gives them a sense of responsibility and leadership. It makes them proud to be in Henryetta.”
