Washington started out strong but the Henryetta Lady Knights were determined to be the winners Thursday afternoon at the festival at Shawnee. That determination paid off when the HHS crew brought in five runs in the final inning for a 19-15 victory over the tenth-ranked 4A school.
Henryetta went scoreless in the first two innings while Washington picked up a 10-run lead.
In the third, Kasedi Gobin hit a grounder and made it to first on a Washington error allowing Kaylie Hamric to score. With Emily Smith on third, Jaylynn Joslin grounded out but Smith scored.
Washington scored twice in that frame then the Lady Knights came back on the attack in the fourth.
Madelyn Blackbear got on base with an error then Autumn Blackbear singled. A line drive by Lexi Lollis brought Maddie across home plate followed by Autumn scoring on a Hamric single. Lollis and Hamric came home on a Smith double to left. Huleah Wincle added run number seven with a single by Gobin followed by Smith scoring on a hit by Joslin. The final run for Henryetta in that inning came when Lauren Lee singled bringing Gobin home.
Five more runs would go on the Henryetta side of the board in the fifth with Madelyn Blackbear, Lollis, Hamric, Wincle and Smith scoring on RBIs.
Tied up 14-14 going into the top of the seventh, A single by Smith scored Hamric to break the tie. With two outs, Joslin and Lee both parked the ball with Joslin driving in Smith then Madelyn Blackbear doubled to score Avery Miller
