state tennis

After a rain delayed start, Henryetta Knights took the courts at the state 4A tournament Saturday morning.
The Knights had Grant Holder and John Ritter making it to the 2 doubles finals while Lollis and Wion went for third place in the 1 doubles and Jordan Knox faced off against from Byng for third.
By the time the smoke cleared, Henryetta tied with Grove for third place with 19 team points. Ada captured first after sending all four of its entries into the finals and taking two doubles championships. Placing second was Crossings Christian.holder ritter
Holder and Ritter started their march to the finals with wins over Metro Christian (6-0,7-5 and Elk City (7-6,6-2) before running into Ada. The Cougars were trying for their second consecutive team title. The HHS boys were unable to break that streak losing 6-1,6-0.
In the 1 doubles contest, HHS senior Colten Wion and junior Keaton Lollis started out blanking Wagoner 6-0,6-0 then came from behind to win 6-7,7-5,6-1 over Pauls Valley. That set up a semi-finals battle with the Grove Ridgerunners. Wion and Lollis won the first set 6-4 but fell behind to lose 6-2 and 6-2. The battle for third place against Oologah-Talala was an opportunity for payback after Lollis and Wion lost to Davis and Taylor in the regional tournament the week before. Henryetta had to struggle a couple of times in the opening match before winning 7-5 then took a 6-3 win for third.
Another HHS senior, Jordan Knox, faced off against a regional opponent, Cameron Doyle in the opening match at the OKC Tennis Center Friday. He won that contest 6-2,6-0 to go into the quarter-finals with Grove’s Silas Rosiere. Knox took a 6-0,6-3 win but lost to the eventual state champion Hunter Demundrun in the quarterfinals. Playing for third, Knox dealt Byng 6-3 and 6-4 losses for his third place medal.
The Henryetta 1 singles entry, Jordan Osterdock lost his opening set 6-2 then came back to win 6-1 against Harrah’s Caleb Hughey. He was unable to take the third set losing 6-3. That put him against Daniel Long, his regional opponent from Oologah in the first round of consolations. He took that win 6-3,7-6 but was unable to win against Chisholm knocking him out of contention for any medals.
