The temperature was not the only thing hot at the Henryetta golf course this weekend.
A field of four teams played six rounds of golf Saturday and Sunday in the annual Henryetta Cup tournament.
Held each year to honor the late HHS golf champion Jeff Lawrence, the tournament provides money for a scholarship in his name and funds to help the HHS golf team.
Each team is named for the four courses, Cushing, Seminole, Trosper and Henryetta, Lawrence Lawrence won his state championships and runner-up titles and his home course.
This year the Henryetta team, composed of J.W. VanDenBorn, Justin Been, Ryan Swallow, Nick Flanary, Brian Loyd, Dale Pendley, Morgan Brown, Billy Brown and Shawn Buzan took first place honors. Each will receive a ceramic cup made in New York.hen cup
The tournament has golfers playing 27 holes on each of the two days with the format ranging from best ball to alternate shot or a scramble. Each person get points for each match.
Most of the participants are Lawrence’s former teammates or those who played against him in high school. “They come from all over Texas and Oklahoma for the two days,” according to HHS girls coach Dutch VanDenBorn.
