Rebecca Hold,
Okemah Chapter Regent
Tuesday, June 16, was a special summer day for the Okemah Daughters of the American Revolution. Member June Yahola, assisted by her daughter Laurel Yahola, hosted a fun luncheon for new and prospective members at her house at the family’s Shaman Arabian Ranch in Cromwell.

Twenty-one members, guests, new members and prospective members enjoyed fellowship and a fun menu of “Walking Tacos,” chocolate cake, strawberry jello cake, and warm peach pie.
After the luncheon all guests introduced themselves acquainting everyone with their backgrounds and interests. It was inspiring for our chapter to hear such positive and delightful testimonies about DAR.
Hopefully by September our chapter will have five new members: April Jorgensen, Amber Ott, Coleen Hatch, Mavis Wilson, and Gayle Sullivan. Prospective members attending were Lyn Franks, Druann Perrier, and Laurel Yahola.
A great time was had by all and we are looking forward to our first meeting of the new DAR year September 10, at 11:30 A.M. at Pepino’s Restaurant in Okemah when we will be finalizing plans for Constitution Week on September 17-23.
Okemah DAR is living up to our new President General, Denise Doring VanBuren’s, theme, “Rise and Shine for America.”
DAR is a non-political patriotic service organization comprising 185,000 women across the USA and overseas. Membership is open to women over the age of 18 regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background. We are women who care about fostering good citizenship, honoring our ancestors, educating our youth, and preserving our past for future generations. We especially honor our veterans.
