Over 30 disc golfers hit the course at Nichols Park for the Labor Day Lay Up tournament.
This was the second tournament to be held at the park since the new baskets were placed earlier this year.disc1
Golfers played two rounds Monday with 18 holes each, one on the west side and the other on the east side of the park. Like in regular golf, scoring is based on the fewest throws (strokes) to get the disc in the basket (hole).
Seven divisions were held for both men and women.
In the open division, JOhn Belty was first with a combined score of 108. Second place went to Dylan Swanson with 116. Bobby Barnes came in third with 120.
disc2Gene Kouba was the winner in the pro masters 65 plus division wtih a 125 score.
Katie Belty posted a 146 to win the open women’s category.
The Amateur Masters 50+ category was won by Royce Lambert with a 108. Second went to Joe Davis and Joshua Craig, each with a 121.
The Amateur Masters 60-plus was won by Charlie Chunt with a 125. Jefferey Crittenden was second with a 132 and Brad Grizzle, third with 153.
Intermediate first place went to Librado Castro with a 122 and Dustin Snyder took second with a 132.
The Recreational winner was Brandon Armstrong who had a 142 for two rounds. Second was Zach Schumacher with a 125.
Another tournament is planned at the park in November said Joshua Craig, the event organizer.
