This year the Jim Shoulders Living Legends rodeo attracted the largest audience yet.
That was the word from Henryetta Chamber of Commerce executive director Roy Madden Monday.sharon shoulders
Speaking at the monthly chamber directors meeting, Madden said admission ticket sales were up both nights of the rodeo August 31 and September 1. “This was the first year that we were a PRCA sanctioned rodeo and that brought more fans each night,” he said.
Sharon Shoulders, wife of rodeo namesake Jim Shoulders, expressed her gratitude to the chamber as well as volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make the rodeo a success.
“Jim would be proud that this is a PRCA rodeo,” she said. “He was a founding member of the organization that evolved into the PRCA so many years ago.”
She displayed a couple of the original publications that early day professional contestants used to find out about rodeos across the United States. By comparison, she held up a copy of the most recent publication that included Henryetta as a PRCA rodeo.
“This was a dream of Jim’s,” she added.
Now that the rodeo is behind, the chamber is starting to work on the annual Christmas parade as well as the Santa Bucks program. More information will be released on those events in the next two months.
