Fred Clay, a longtime resident of Henryetta, died Jan. 26, 2020 in Henryetta at the age of 95. He was born Oct. 15, 1924 in Ozark, Ark., to Oscar and Edith (Shaver) Clay. Fred is a WWII veteran serving in the Army with the 40th Infantry Division serving in the Pacific theater of operations. ‘
He married Ilene Robinson Nov. 16, 1946 in Okemah and made Henryetta their home. Fred retired as Vice President of the American Exchange Bank and continued to work as a rancher. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Past Treasurer for 33 years at the Henryetta First Baptist Church and a Deacon at the Immanuel Baptist Church. He also served as past president of the Okmulgee Cattleman’s Association and Henryetta Rotary Club and a member of the Gideon’s.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Siblings; Clyde Clay, Louis Clay, Freda Evans, Glenn Clay, Roger Clay, Norma Chesser, Clyde Clay, Curtis Clay, Farrel Clay and Buster Clay.
He is survived by his wife Ilene of the home; daughters: Gail Clay and Paula Harjo and husband Bubba of Henryetta; grandchildren: Brian Harjo of Sand Springs, Jason Harjo of Broken Arrow, Warren Harjo of Texarkana and Candace Hovarter.
Grandchildren: Trent, Austin, Ashley, Matthew, Logan, AVA, Abbey,
Aley Grace and Riley; sister: Joyce Earnest of Midland,Tex.
Family will be receiving guest at the Funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Matlock officiating. Interment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Army. Services are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
