nazarene-church For years, Henryettans have been using the basement at the First Church of the Nazarene for a storm shelter.
That has come to an end this past week. Not because the church wants to keep people out but, because insurance liability is rearing its head.
Pastor Mike Meeks made this announcement this week in a news release as well as to church members.
"While the church is saddened to end this provision to the citizens of Henryetta, First Church of the Nazarene, has no choice but to comply with the Insurance liability issues at hand," he said.
Over 150 people came to the church this past weekend when storm sirens sounded.
There is no public shelter facility anywhere in Henryetta. The school is in the early stages of a building plan that will provide safe rooms to house some 1,500 people in the event of storms. Those safe rooms will not be available for over a year.
