Henryetta basketball fans saw an intense matchup between the 3A Knights and 4A Bethel Wildcats Tuesday.
The Knights shook off a first and third quarter attack by the Wildcats and hit 23 points in the fourth quarter for a 44-35 win.
It was not as nice an evening for the Lady Knights with Bethel taking a 57-24 victory in a game that saw henryetta only score four points in the final half.
The girls' game had Bethel leading 14-8 at the end of the first quarter then a series of three point goals pushed the Lady Wildcats ahead of Henryetta 34-20 at the half.
In the final two periods, the only Henryetta scoring came on free throws with two points in each quarter.
Hanna Gouge had ten points during the night for Henryetta, eight of them in the second period. She was followed by Kyra Najera with five, Maddie Gouge, four, Aundrea Hamric and Addison Ellis, two each and Aundrie Billie, one.
At the close of the first frame of the boys' game, only three points separated the two teams with Bethel taking the lead on a pair of two point field goals. That came to an end in the second when the Knight defense stiffened up holding Bethel to only three. The second period saw Chet Caywood get nine of his eventual 21 points after being held scoreless in the opening quarter.
The third period was a defensive battle but the Wildcats were able to pick up eight points compared with four for the Knights.
In the final period, Henryetta scored seven times from the field and hit eight out of 13 free throws to capture the lead.
Heath Konsure had 15 points during the evening, six behind Caywood. Ira Blackbear and Riley Berry each had four.
