Virginia Joan Shockley, a former Henryetta resident, died Sept. 27, 2020 in Norman at the age of 88. She was born Aug. 3, 1932 to Louis Barbero and Melanie Annie Watteau Barbero in Henryetta. She grew up and graduated from Henryetta High School and married Joe Thomas Shockley June 2, 1949. Joe and Joan lived in Henryetta until 1975 when they moved to Fresno, CA. Joan worked during holiday seasons in Henryetta making beautiful flower arrangements for the various holidays. The couple retired to Norman in 1990.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Norman.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, and her only sister and best friend, Rosalie Berkey.
She is survived by her two children: Joe Shockley, Jr. and wife, Ginger of Norman and Jill Lynn Shockley Neal and husband, Paul of Clovis, Calif.; four grandchildren: Brent Shockley and wife, Jamie, of Lantana, Tex., Blake Shockley and wife, Molly, of Jenks, Lindsay Huang and husband, Andrew, of Fresno, Chad Neal and wife, Hayley, of Clovis, Calif.,; nine great grandchildren: Jackson, Savannah, Parker, Owen, Cooper, Sadie and Emery Shockley, Harper Huang and soon to be born, Jack Neal.
A family visitation will be held Wednesday, 5 to 6:30 p.m. with a Remembrance Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at Tribute Memorial Care, 708 24th Ave NW, Suite 200, Norman. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta. Services are under the direction of Tribute Memorial Care.
