December 7 will see a flurry of activity starting at the Okmulgee County election board.
Ten school board seats and two Okmulgee city council positions will be open for election Feb. 9, 2021.
The filing period for those positions starts at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7 and will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 9.
School board seats in Beggs, Dewar, Green Country Technology Center, Henryetta, Morris, Okmulgee, Preston, Schulter, Twin Hills and Wilson will be up for grabs.
The Okmulgee city election will seat council members for wards three and four.
In the school board election, if only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the April 7 general election.
Election board secretary Ashley Caries said if more than two candidates file, their names will be on the Feb. 7 election. “If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the general election,” she said. That general election will be held Tuesday, April 6.
