For the second time in three days, pickup trucks were burned up and firemen called to put out grass fires.
The latest happened Monday night when a fire broke out on Conifer Road around 6 p.m. The fire was said to have started when a pickup was driven into a pasture and became stuck in the mud. Tall grass and weeds under the vehicle ignited from the pickup catalytic converter.
That fire burned about 40 acres and required fire units from Henryetta, Dewar and Schulter to extinguish it. The blaze was contained before some cattle in the pasture as well as some oil storage tanks and pumping units could be endangered.
Over the weekend, a fire south of Henryetta started when a pickup had engine problems. The fire spread to surrounding grass along the roadside but was extinguished within minutes by the Plainview volunteer fire department.
Henryetta fire chief David Bullard cautioned everyone about burning trash or debris.
“We are in the time of year when vegetation is extremely dry and can catch fire easily. Couple that with windy conditions and a small fire can get out of control within a matter of minutes.”
