There is a lot of new bling being shown around Dewar this week.
Saturday night saw a bunch of proud Dewar Dragon fans celebrate one of the most successful football seasons that school has ever witnessed.
At a special awards dinner, the Dewar state champion football team received their diamond and dog rings marking them as the best Class B team in Oklahoma.
During the year, the team went undefeated with 15 wins and no losses and won the fourth consecutive district championship. The Dragons outscored their district opponents 310 to 12 in five games and in the playoffs, racked up a total of 268 points and giving up only 58.
champ ringThey took the state championship at Alva with a 38-20 win over Laverne.
In addition to the championship rings, members of the Dragon cheerleading squad were presented with special pendants marking the successful season. One of those pendants was presented to the parents of Tristan Gaither, their fellow cheerleader who died in a tragic drowning in February.
Coach Joshua Been presented James Brison with the All Star football jacket. Shawn Maxwell received the Oklahoma Coaches Association All Star by Class jacket and Baylor Selby and Joey Fowler each received there all state jackets. Been said this was the first time that Dewar had two all state football players at the same time and they were the only two named to the team from the eastern part of the state.
It was announced the been is the Class B Coach of the Year and Brandon Turley is the Class B Assistant Coach of the Year.
A special award when to Joe Fowler naming him the most valuable coach for Dewar.
Been’s wife, Kiersten, presented each of the coaches with a miniature version of the state football trophy.
During the dinner, members of the team were given time to speak to the audience about their pride in being a Dragon as well as what the accomplishment meant to them.
