Henryetta lt. Detective Robert Heath was honored Thursday morning by the Okmulgee County Jail Authority.heath
Heath received a Purple Heart medal as a result of injuries he received in April at a disturbance in the jail.
He is a member of the Tactical Team that was called in to restore order after several inmates were involved in a fight. The fight injured one of the prisoners but jail guards were unable to get the prisoner to medical attention.
During the efforts to quell the disturbance, one of the prisoners grabbed the Henryetta officer and slammed a concrete block onto his hand. That resulted in damage to several singles and required surgery. The wounds have still not healed.
Heath has been with the Henryetta police department for three years. He has been in law enforcement for 20 years.
