Saturday was a rough day for motorists on Interstate 40.
A four-vehicle crash in the construction zone six miles east of Okemah closed the highway for nearly three hours then a crash involving two semi trailer trucks west fo Henryetta at the McIntosh County line closed eastbound traffic for over four hours.
The first crash happened just before 7 a.m. when an eastbound 2021 International box truck collided with three other vehicles at the entrance to the construction area.
That truck, driven by Kelon Walker, 28, Oklahoma City, hit a pickup driven by Barry Adams, Sebastian, Ark., a 2001 Buick driven by Danielle Sanders, Dustin and 2021 Volvo semi driven by Felix Osborne, Newport, Tenn.
According to OHP trooper Ty Wallace, sanders was pinned in her vehicle until she could be extricated by Okemah fire department personnel. She was flown to St. John’s hospital in Tulsa for treatment of internal and leg injuries.
The second crash happened around 9:30 Saturday night involving two semis. No injuries were reported in that accident. The crash is still under investigation.
