Saturday’s wind and Sunday’s chilly drizzle did not deter nearly 200 men and women from enjoying the disc golf courses at Nichols Park.
A total of 192 people were registered for the Oklahoma Disc Golf State tournament from as far away as Ohio and Wisconsin and as close as Dewar and Muskogee. There was even one man who, although going to school in Oklahoma City, hails from France.
Over $3,000 in prize monies went to the top winners in the open men and women contests as well as the pro masters 40-plus and pro masters 50-plus contests.
During the afternoon Saturday there were contests for longest drive as well as closest to the pin.
The man responsible for the Nichols Park course, Joshua Craig, was the winner of the 50-plus Advanced Masters competition.
Samantha Russell, Dewar took home the trophy for the Advanced Masters in the women’s bracket.
This was the second disc golf tournament held at Nichols this year and more are planned in 2022.
The course is rapidly becoming a favorite for devotees of the sport across the state as well as those form Texas, Arkansas and Kansas. During the tournament several golfers were very vocal in their appreciation for the challenging design of the course.
