Ruth Miller,  former missionary to Burundi, Africa, died Dec. 2, 2021, at Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson, Kansas at the age of 102.
She was born Jan. 1, 1919 in Henryetta, the daughter of Joseph Luther and Mary Elizabeth (Hall) Madden. She graduated from Henryetta High School in 1938, went to State College in Ada where she graduated with a Life Time Teaching Certificate. Ruth moved back to her hometown to teach Speech and English. She enrolled at Bethany Nazarene College. On June 4, 1944, Ruth married Alfred Miller, the love of her life and partner in missionary endeavors.
Aside from several years spent in the States, Ruth and Alfred served effectively as missionaries in Central Africa from 1946 until 1991.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Luther and Izzy Madden; husband, Alfred Miller; sisters, Florene Madden, Margaret Decker and Allene Pitman; brothers, David Madden, and Frank Madden; daughter-in-law, Jacque Miller; and granddaughter, Kristin Rathbun.
Ruth is survived by her four children: Fred (Marvia) Miller of Colby Ks., Grady (Carol) Miller of Bolton Ks., David Miller of Fort Collins CO., and Ruthie Kemper of Wichita KS; nine grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Manchester Cemetery in Manchester, Okla. Memorials may be sent to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson, KS 67502. All contributions will go towards the missionary projects in Burundi Africa.
