Kenneth Sumpter died Jan. 18, 2022 in Henryetta, at the age of 91.
Kenneth was born in Hugo Aug. 22, 1930 to Lawrence and Katie (Shawhart) Sumpter. The family moved to Henryetta when Kenneth was just a young boy. He graduated from Henryetta High School in 1948. Kenneth joined the military in 1951, proudly serving in the US Army during the Korean conflict until 1953.
He married Jessie Ruth (Radford) Dec. 24, 1951, and they remained married for 50 years, until her death in January 2001. He was a lifelong member and a deacon of the Henryetta First Free Will Baptist Church in Henryetta. He worked 27 years at PPG, then continued his career at KELCO until he retired in 1992.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Katie (Shawhart) Sumpter, sister Betty Jewell Kelly, and his wife Jessie "Ruth" (Radford) Sumpter.
He is survived by three daughters: Paula Long and husband Marty, Suzan Thompson and husband Bill, and Rhonda Morton and husband Clay; brother-in-law Clifford Kelly; sister-in-law Martha Ruth Radford; seven grandchildren: Stacy Tipton, Sam Tipton, Laura Thompson, Jenny Thompson, Amy Thompson Minturn and husband Blake, Chris Morton, Josh Morton and wife Amanda; three great grandchildren: Makayla Morton, Elizabeth Morton, and Emily Morton, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. at Integrity Funeral Service Friday, Jan. 21, 2022.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022 at Integrity Chapel at 12 p.m. with Rev. Terry Cossey and Rev. Earl Scroggins officiating. Interment will follow at Salt Creek Cemetery in the Wilson Community. Services are under the direction and care of Integrity Funeral Service.
