The baseball fields at Nichols Park are undergoing a facelift thanks to Henryetta coaches Ryan Swallow, Brian Leader, Collin Rogers and Patrick Turner.
Recently they spent several hours getting the fields ready to play this summer and more improvements are in the offing.
Part of those improvements includes new fencing around the fields with funding coming from money out of the hotel/motel tax.
At a special meeting Monday council members approved spending $18,104 for the fence work.
“The fields are in disarray. We have known about it for some time,” said Jennifer Munholland. She praised the work by the coaches calling the appearance, “amazing.” She went on to say the coaches are getting a tax ID and in the process of setting up a 501c3 non-profit designation.
Two bids were submitted for the project with Keith Mustin presenting the low bid.
Another item of business for the council was approval of life insurance for city employees.
Munholland said there is an increase in cost from $420.97 to $457.59 monthly. That represents a 12.7 percent increase to the city.
