For the third time this fiscal year Henryetta received less in sales tax money than the previous year.
The May distribution of sales taxes by the state amounted to $301,472.48, a drop of $70,626 from last year. It marked the second time in the past 12 months that the town received over $300,000 in sales tax revenue.
Henryetta was one of three towns in the area showing a decline in sales taxes. Also in the red were Okmulgee, down $20,776 from last year’s receipts of $754,108, and Okemah reporting $119,587 this year, a drop of $7,619.55 from a year ago.
In the plus side of sales tax money were:
Dewar, receiving $16,959.97, a gain of $1,433;
Beggs with $43,618.31, up $4,334;
Checotah, $457,193.08, a gain of $5,470;
Eufaula, $329,292.94, up $78,740;
Morris, $31,352.12, up $1,544.27, and
Weleetka, $21,305.97, a $3,265 increase.
While the sales tax money was down for Henryetta, the use tax return was up again for the fifth straight month this year It amounted to $49,594.27, a gain of $11,410 from the May 2021 check of $38,183.49.
The return to Okmulgee County government also took a hit with a check for $518,891.21. That was a drop of $23,701 from last year.
Statewide, $189,493,350 was distributed to cities and towns. That was a $6,647,893 from last year..
