A couple of deadlines affecting voters in Okmulgee County are looming.
“June 3, 2022 is the last day to apply for voter registration to be eligible to vote in June 28, 2022, State, Federal, and County Primary Election, Okmulgee County,” Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes said.
She went on to say June 13 is the deadline for anyone requesting absentee ballots for those same elections.
To be eligible to vote, a person must be a citizen of the United state, resident of Oklahoma and at least 18 years old. “A person can be 17 and one half years of age to register but they cannot vote,” she said.
Registration applications have to be postmarked no later than June 3, Any received after that time will be accepted but not processed until after the June 28 election.
Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Some may receive a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application was not approved. Carnes said those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should immediately contact the County Election Board office.
Absentee ballot requests can be made through the state online website: oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp. Request forms are also available at oklahoma.gov/elections and the County Election Board office at 314 W. 7th Street, Room 102, Okmulgee.
Carnes said voters should allow time for an absentee ballot to be received, completed, and returned by mail to the County Election Board. “With some exceptions, all absentee ballot affidavits must be notarized before being returned. Carnes said that voters should give themselves plenty of time to make sure all steps have been followed and that the ballot is returned correctly to be counted.”
