Okmulgee County had seven players in the Nichols Park Shootout disc golf tournament Saturday. None finished in the top ranks but course designer and promoter Joshua Craig was in the top two in one of the categories.
Craig finished second in the amateur masters 50-plus category. He had a 129 scorecard, just four strokes behind Chris Wood from Edmond who won that category.
In the same division, Henryetta resident Jerry Craig tied for sixth place with a 140.
The open division had Stephen Penrod from Morris tied for 20th spot with a 129. First place went to Bartlesville’s Noah Yearout who had a 107 for the two rounds.
Other county participants playing in the recreational division included Matthew Hicks from Dewar who finished sixth with a 137, Del Wytovak, Okmulgee tied for ninth with a 142, Ethan Busby finishing 18th with a 151, Seth Pevehouse, 19th with 158 and Timothy Cole, 21st with a 168.
There were 130 registered but six declined to play in the day-long tournament that saw participants battling showers and drizzle. Disc golf players from as far away as San Diego, Calif, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kentucky joined in the ranks of participants.
Jason Schwake said Nichols Park will be the site for another similar-sized tournament in November.
