rodeo check

Only a few weeks remain until the Jim SHoulders Living Legends rodeo arena is filled with ecitement.
That event got an extra boost this week when First Family Federal Credit Union presented the rodeo committee with a $50,000 sponsorship check
The presentation was made at the arena Tuesday by FFFCU CEO David Dykes and public relations head Ashley Morrison. Receiving the money were rodeo committee chairs Mark and Tammie Hiatt and chamber executive director Ron Richmond.
"This will be the 29th year for the rodeo," said Dykes. "We wanted to make this long-term committment because we know Henryetta's future rodeos have such promise and will continue to be a benefit to our community.
Some 10,000 people attend both the Living Legends and Roy Madden Spring Round Up rodeos each year. In the past 29 years there have been a number of changeswith one of the biggest being the announcement four years ago that the PRCA is sanctioning the Living Legends rodeo. "That brings the best possible cowgirls and cowboys to be a part of this event," Hiatt said.
In addition to the PRCA sanction points, contestants will be working toward a new added money high of $1,500 per event and $2,500 ifor the steer roping. There will also be hand-crafted trophy spurs to the rough stock event winners. A special trophy belt buckle named for barrel horse trainer Addison Waddell will be presented to the winner of that event. A trophy leather director's chair will be presented to the champion steer roper and the all-around cowboys and cowgirls will receive troophy coolers. Hat manufacturer Resistol is donating hat certificates to each of the event winners.
"The Living Legends Rodeo is rapidly becoming the go-to rodeo and we invite everyone to come out Labor Day weekend to Nichols Park and see the action," Dykes added.
