Henryetta's streets are going to be a lot brighter starting next week.
street lightsPublic Service Company workers are coming to town to replace the decades-old street lights with new LED technology.
When completed, 453 PSO-owned street lights will be replaced. That includes all the downtown lights as well as the yellow lights on side streets.
"The new lighting will improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians, providing greater appeal and safety while strengthening connections in the community," said Chris Thompson, PSO customer service manager.
He said the old high intensity discharge (HID) lights are obsolete with many replacement parts no longer available or at much higher prices.
The new LED light is more focused keeping the light directed toward the street and not wasted into the sky.
LED lights also take less time to warm up and will eliminate the eerie yellow glow of old high- pressure sodium lights, improving night vision efficiently.
“LED lights produce a clearer light that will improve night visibility for everyone,” said PSO External Affairs Manager Frank Phillips. “I think our customers are going to be very happy with what they see.”
PSO funds installation and upkeep on the lights. Municipal funding will pay for the energy use at a discounted rate.
