Brittney Albert and Gabby Gray, members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Chapter of Henryetta High School were two of 58 FCCLA members from across Oklahoma who participated in the organization’s Rookie Camp June 17 through 19 at Camp Tulakogee. fccla-kids
One of the main purposes of the three-day camp was to expose FCCLA members to the opportunities found with membership in FCCLA.
Members also sharpened their leadership and communication skills, according to State Adviser Denise Morris.
“They will take many of the leadership skills they learned back to their chapters and build enthusiasm for the organization among chapter members,” Morris said.
Rookie Camp is sponsored by the Oklahoma FCCLA Alumni Association. Brittani Parker of Four16 Training Solutions facilitated the camp.
FCCLA helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues. More than 11,000 students on Oklahoma high school and technology center campuses are members of FCCLA.
“FCCLA is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members,” Morris said. “It is the only CareerTech student organization with family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.”
The co-curricular CareerTech Student Organization, FCCLA, is an integral part of the Oklahoma CareerTech System and supports family and consumer sciences education for students in grades six through 12. FCCLA is one of seven CTSOs affiliated with CareerTech career areas. The other six are FFA and agricultural education; Business Professionals of America and business and information technology education; HOSA and health careers education; DECA and marketing education; Technology Student Association and science, technology, engineering and mathematics and technology engineering; and SkillsUSA and trade and industrial education.
