The Lady Knights dominated the opening game of their regional tournament Thursday as they sailed past Sequoyah-Tahlequah 16-5.
Home runs by the HHS girls were the order of the day. Henryetta batters went yard three times with Serenity Rex, Shelby Kilhoffer and Chloe Swearingen all sailing the blal over the fence.
Rex started the scoring with a solo homer in the first. She was followed by a double by Kassedi Lee that scored Alanine Hicks then Skylar Morris singled putting Brooklynn Baughman across home plate. The scoring went up another run when Lee used a passed ball to dash home.
That scoring continued in the second inning with Kilhoffer going yard to center scoring Kenley Miller followed by Rex stealing home putting the Lady Knights up 7-0.
Sequoyah picked up one run in the third and another in the fourth on a couple of HHS miscues.
Henryetta added two more runs in the fifth with Lee and Miller scoring on RBIs.The Sequoyah girls would get their final runs in the bottom of the fifth on RBI hits.
A home run by Swearingen that cleared the left field fence added the final three runs not he board. Just before that, a single by Mckayla Greenhaw scored both Baughman and Lee. This was Swearingen’s first home run of the fastpitch season.
The Lady Knights tallied 13 hits on the day while Sequoyah only managed three.
Rex was called in to pitch after Kilhoffer sustained an ankle injury. Kilhoffer was out for the rest of the game after that mishap.
