The Lady Knights came close to making another trip to state Friday.
They won 6-2 in the day's opener with Sequoyah and, until the seventh inning, were in position to win over Kiefer.Henryetta was ahead 9-6 at the end of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Kiefer nailed a fly ball to center good enough to bring in two other runs and tied the game at 9-9. With one out, the Lady Trojans had a single to left scoring two runs and taking the win.
That game was scoreless through the first three innings then Allanee Hicks got a solo homer to center. The HHS lead was short-lived as Kiefer started with a solo homer then, with two outs, hit a triple with bases loaded to go ahead 4-1.
Back to back home runs by Shelby Kilhoffer and Serenity Rex put the Lady Knights back in the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Keiefer answered that in bottom of the fifth with a two run single for a 6-3 lead.
Henryetta regained the lead in the top of the sixth with a double by Brooklynn Baughman that scored Kassedi Lee followed by Winder Beaver getting a single driving in Baughman putting the score at Henryetta 5, Kiefer 6.
The lead went to the Lady Knights with a Kilhoffer single scoring Suta Harjo and Mckayla Greenhaw.
Kiefer was kept to only a double and single but no way to get home in the bottom of the sixth.
That's when Re walked went to second on a Hick single then stole third and came home on a Lee ground out. Baughman singled bringing in Hicks with a 9-6 lead and what some HHS fans thought would be a win.
It was not to be as the Lady Trojans battled back for the right to go on to state.
Henryetta had a dozen hits in that game with Kilhoffer going three for four at the plate.
Rex was ib the pitcher's circle for Henryetta going six and a third innings.
