A two-vehicle crash north of Okmulgee Tuesday claimed the life of an 81-year-old Henryetta man.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Eddie Screechowl, 81, was the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet pickup that collided with a 2015 Freightliner trash truck driven by Michael Thomas, 35, Henryetta.
OHP Trooper Bryce Lewellan said the pickup was northbound on US 75 when it went into the center median. The pickup struck an embankment and crossed the cable barrier before entering the southbound lane. The Freightliner was southbound at the time of the collision.
The crash had the southbound lanes of US 75 closed for nearly an hour.
According to Henryetta city manager, the trash truck was being returned from Tulsa where it had been getting repairs.
