Every year area youngsters are introduced to tennis for the first time.
IMG 0396Some of those youthful athletes go on to make their mark with championship medals around their necks.
That introduction is going to be held again this summer at the annual free tennis program starting May 30 and running through July 6.
HHS coach Dustin Mosco holds the sessions from Monday through Thursday at the tennis courts on West Main open to students from second through 12th grades.
He said the first session is a 45-minute program for second through fifth grade starting at 9 a.m. The older participants from sixth through 12th grade will begin at 10 a.m. and run through noon.
The first session is an introduction to the game and allows the children to learn how to hold the rackets and hit the ball then progress in their abilities as the program goes on. The sessions for the older students helps many of them advance in their skills.
“We don’t charge for the lessons,” coach Mosco said. “All we ask is everyone brings one can of tennis balls on the opening day. There is no advanced sign-up period, everyone can register on May 30.”
