Henryetta native J.W. Vandenborn put another honor on his fireplace mantle.
The head golf coach at the University of Missouri in Kansas City has been named Coach of the Year for the 2022-23 Summit League Men’s Golf association.
His team earned four-straight top-five finishes late in the regular season and finishing it all off with a final round comeback to claim the Summit League Championship trophy.
He has been head coach at UMKC for 21 years.
VanDenBorn has now led the Roos to six NCAA Championship appearances, all in the past 13 seasons. He has been named conference Coach of the Year four times now, including three such honors from the Summit League.
A 1997 Henryetta high school graduate, he is the son of Dutch and Ellen Vandenborn.
