A water line break at Eighth and Ragan crippled the supply to residents in a nearly 12-block area Monday morning. The break happened shortly before 9 a.m. with service restored around 1 p.m.
According to city officials, the break, while an inconvenience for some, proved the worth of a new feature through the city's new website.
There is a feature on the website that allows residents to sign up for special alerts ranging from water outages to storm warnings. Within a few minutes of the break being discovered, a notice was sent via text message announcing there could be a, "possible water interruption in the area between Sixth and Tenth near Ragan."
