A delayed fatality collision occurred on March 20, 2025, at approximately 8:14 p.m. on OK-73/OK-44, about 3.5 miles north of Foss, Oklahoma, in Custer County.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2019 Ford Edge driven by 82-year-old Martha L. Clem of Camargo was traveling westbound on OK-73 when it failed to stop at the T-intersection with OK-44. The vehicle departed the roadway, went airborne, struck a ditch, and went airborne again before coming to rest in a nearby field.
Clem was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City by Sinor EMS and admitted in stable condition with injuries to her arm, trunk, and leg.
Her passenger, 81-year-old Shirley A. Pitts of Alva, was also transported to OU Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
The driver was reportedly in normal condition at the time of the crash. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. The cause of the collision was determined to be unsafe speed for the curve. Weather conditions were clear and dry.
The incident was investigated by Trooper Matthew Littledave, with assistance from other OHP troopers, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, Sinor EMS, and Foss Fire Department.
