Update: A male attacker was shot and killed by a Secret Service agent after an apparent assassination attempt on Trump at an event in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The attacker killed one spectator and critically injured two others at the rally, according to the Secret Service.
Trump Thanks Secret Service in First Comments
The former president expressed his gratitude to the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies for their rapid actions to the shooting that just took place.
He also said “Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person who was killed at the rally, and also to the family of another person who was badly injured,” he stated in the post.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” he added.
He concluded with, “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
The Butler County, Pa., district attorney reportedly said the shooter of former President Trump is dead.

UPDATE: Donald Trump has left a local hospital after being shot in the ear, according to CBS News. It is unclear where Trump is heading. He was scheduled to go to his estate in Bedminster, New Jersey, today after the rally. The former president is also scheduled to be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Sunday for the start of the Republican National Convention on Monday.
