Henryetta city council members gave their blessing for a group of local residents to start cleaning up Nichols Park.
“We’ve formed an informal committee we want to do a general cleanup,” said Vernon Britt in a presentation to the council.
He said as the cleanup is being done, an assessment of park needs will be held.
“You don’t need our permission to do a cleanup,” said mayor Jennifer Clason. “We just want ot make sure everyone is happy,” Britt replied.
He said eventually it would be including several different organizations so the work would, “not fall on the shoulders of some individuals.”
“I think this is a great deal,” said council member Ronnie Duke.
The council gave unanimous approval for the cleanup.
During the meeting, it was announced work on the sludge drying beds at the water plant is ahead of schedule. That work is expected to be completed in September.
Within the coming week, bids will be going out for replacement of the million-gallon water tower east of town.
The council approved a five-year lease for the Henryetta RC Aviators to establish a flying field at the Shurden-Leist industrial site. The group will be using five of the lots at the industrial park for a $1 per year rent.rc plane
That will allow remote-controlled aircraft enthusiasts to fly planes and drones. According to club president Wes Arnett, future plans call for construction of an RC car track as well.
No one will be allowed to fly at the site unless they are a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the RC Aviators club.
An agreement with the Okmulgee County Conservation District for mowing at the industrial park was also approved.
The council reappointed Jacci Lackey to the Henryetta public library board for a five year term.
