Every year the Henryetta Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 539 honors deceased veterans by placing flags on their graves.
Over 2,500 flags are used in this endeavor at seven cemeteries around the area and some are reaching the end of their service life.
Hugh Jackson, VFW flag chairman said the post is starting a fund drive to replace those flags that are wearing out.
Each flag costs $1.50 and VFW members will be at Homeland and Walmart Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to receive those donations.
Several years ago the post placed flags along Main Street with the American flag as well as flags for each branch of the armed service. Those flags and poles cost just under $50 each.
We are looking for donations to help us honor or veterans,” Jackson said. “Any amount that can be donated will be appreciated.
He said donations can also be mailed to Henryetta VFW Post 539, P.O. Box 1027, Henryetta, Ok 74437.
