A month after her musical play, “The Art of Peaking Too Soon,” opened, Henryettan Liz Bealko found out she is a Best Director nominee.
Bealko, daughter of Andy and Pam Bealko, was notified Tuesday that she is one of those nominated from among the 88 shows performed for the New York Theatre Festival.
“There is a committee that makes the nominations for the various and I will know Sunday evening who the winners are,” she said.
The categories include best director, best actor, best actress best singer, most creative play or musical and short. Those winners will receive $500 each. The play or musical deemed the best of the festival will receive $3,000. A  $300 award will go to best music score and $200 for best choreography.
This was the sixth play Bealko an HHS graduate, has directed. She four performed in Henryetta in recent years and one, one-act play in New York.
“I’m in shock,” she said. “I’m happy to be recognized and it helps after all the work involved.”
She said the experience gained working with HHS students and members of PASA, was instrumental in her efforts in directing the New York production.
On a side note, Bealko pointed out part of a recently-released musical movie, “Tick, Tock, Boom”, was filmed in the same auditorium where her play, “The Art of Peaking Too Soon,” was performed.
