Shirley Marie (Nickels) Paslay died March 5, 2022 at the age of 87. She was born Jan. 31, 1935 in Ochelata to Earl Frank and Madeline Gayle (Magee) Nickels. Shirley was raised in the Barnsdall area and graduated from Barnsdall High School in 1953. On July 3, 1954, she married Horace D. Paslay and they moved to Skiatook to begin their family. The Paslays raised their children in Skiatook and Shirley was a resident for many years until her health began to fail. She was a faithful housewife and mother and later worked outside the home at Carver’s Shoe Store in the 1970s and early 1980s. She also worked in several family businesses as secretary. Shirley spent some time in a flower shop business. She also was a full-time nanny for the Miller family. Before retirement, she worked at the City of Skiatook offices.
Shirley was a long-time and faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Skiatook where she was a part of the WMU, church choir and other ministries in the church.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Madeline Nickels, brothers Robert Nickels, Jerry Nickels, Don Nickels, Kenneth Nickels, Ernest Nickels and one sister Earlene Nickels.
She is survived by her four children: Homer Paslay of Skiatook, Kevin Paslay and wife Laura of Skiatook, Jim Paslay and wife Lorie of Grove, and Denise Miller and husband, David of Tulsa; one brother, Norman Nickels, and wife Ida of Bartlesville; grandchildren: Clayton Paslay and wife Jessika, Curtis Paslay and wife Dwan, Jessica Michalec and husband Mickey, Desiree Mackey, and husband John, Kamie Brookshire and husband Toby, Danielle Miller and husband Brian, Erin Paslay, Emily McCurtain, and husband Kreg, Courtney Paslay, Maddie Alexander and husband DeJuan, Peyton Miller, Jake Miller, and Jordan Miller; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; also by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Skiatook from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Skiatook March 9, 2022 at 2 p.m. with Jim Paslay and Clayton Paslay officiating. Service is under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Interment will be at the Osage Garden Cemetery in Skiatook.
