Henryetta softball fans were treated to an explosive pair of games as the Lady Knights sailed to their regional championship Wednesday.
Playing on their home field, Henryetta’s girls started off with a 17-4 win over Wyandotte then capped it off with a 13-4 victory against Haskell.
hhs softball regional champAlong the way, Henryetta sparkled with seven home runs, four of them in the first game and three more in the final.
Avery Miller, Kassidy Lee Shelby Kilhoffer and Kasedi Gobin all put the ball out of the park.
Lee notched her home run in the third and Miller had home runs in the fourth and seventh innings of the game with Wyandotte.
Miller was not done hitting the long ball. She went over the fence in center field in the second inning with Haskell driving in Shannon Corkerin and Jaylyn Joslin.
In that same game, Gobin slammed a line drive to center in the fourth inning bringing Joslin and Miller home.
Kilhoffer would follow that up on the very first pitch with a line drive to left for a solo home run.
The day started with the Lady Knights facing the Wyandotte Bulldogs.
Henryetta would score first on an RBI single by Gobin in the leadoff inning. Wyandotte tied the game up with a second inning RBI but from there on it was all Henryetta.
Lee went to center in the third inning with a home run. Henryetta loaded the bases with a walk and two singles then Avery Miller drew a four-ball count waling in another run.
Kilhoffer hit a line out to center scoring Katelyn Dwiggins then a single by Brooklyn Baughman put both Joslin and Miller across home. The final score of that series came when Mckayla Greenhaw singled scoring Baughman.
The Bulldogs would get the final three runs in the third on a home run clearing the bases.
The Lady Knights went into double digits on the scoreboard in the fourth with Miller’s homer good for three runs then Kilhoffer parking the ball. She would get a double in the sixth inning that allowed Joslin and Gobin to cross home.
Two more runs counted in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Dwiggins then Miller’s final one run brought the final three runs to the Lady Knights.
In the first inning of the championship game, leadoff batter Dwiggins would walk then advance on a Joslin single before Miller put the ball on the ground and used an error to get on first. That would score Dwiggins. A single by Gobin brought Joslin home.
With two outs, Greenhaw singled scoring Miller and Gobin for the lead.
With their turn at bat, Haskell would get a two-run homer in the bottom of the first.
Miller answered that with her home run in the second putting Henryetta ahead 7-2.
The third Haymaker home run came in the third on a fly ball to center.
The Lady Knights unleashed their scoring in the fourth with the three run and solo home runs.
The final Haskell run came on an RBI hit to center in the fifth inning.
That win sets the stage for the Lady Knights to head to Oklahoma City next Wednesday for a state 4A championship bid.
