The Lady Knights will be facing the Valliant Lady Bulldogs in the opening round of the state 4A softball tournament next week.
hhs softballThat was good news for HHS coach Ryan Swallow. “Valliant will be the best first round game I’ve ever had in seven appearances,” he said. He pointed out the tournament will still be tough but it keeps Henryetta from going against first-ranked Washington or second-ranked Dale. Henryetta drew both those teams in their opening bids in past years. Last year the Lady Knights ran into Washington in the opening round and lost 11-6.
The tournament is going to be played at the Hall of Fame stadium in Oklahoma City. Henryetta plays at 1 p.m. Also playing at 1 besides Henryetta will be Prague and Dale.
Opening up the day will be Washington against Howe and Silo against Oktaha at 11:30.
The winners of the Valliant-Henryetta game will play either Dale or Prague.
The state finals game is scheduled for 5:30 Wednesday.
This has been a long road for the Lady Knights. They have stayed in the top three ranks for most of the slow-pitch season and currently are ranked third with a 29-4 season.
“Our girls played solid at regionals,” the coach said. “I am super proud of the focus and togetherness of the team. We have maintained a solid pitching and defensive game all year and added a great offense to get us to state.”
Even though the regular season is over, Henryetta will still be honing their skills.
The Lady Knights will be going to Jenks Monday for a game with the 6A Lady Trojans. On Tuesday, Henryetta will be heading to Choctaw for a 4 p.m. game. That will be the final time on the diamond until the tournament the next day.
“I’m excited for next week,” coach Swallow said. :These girls have been fun to coach.”
