Mandatory redistricting has caused many districts and precinct boundaries to change. As a result, 6,728 voters are going to be affected.
“Some voters will be assigned to new polling places or in a new district or both,” Ashley Carnes, Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary, announced today.
The precinct boundary lines must be evaluated every ten years following the redistricting of congressional, legislative, and county commissioner districts. Redistricting occurs following the federal census to ensure that the population in the various districts is equal.
District lines that changed for Okmulgee County are House Representative 24 and the County Commissioners 1, 2, and 3.
All voters affected by the redistricting will receive a new Voter ID card before the June 28 Primary Election. “The last bundle of I.D. cards was mailed May 26, 2022.”
Carnes said, "we are seeing a lot of Voter ID cards returning to the County Election Board office by the Post Office due to voters no longer residing at the address. Voters are not updating their voter information."
Anyone who has moved should call the County Election Board to check their voter information or visit the Oklahoma State Election Board website (www.elections.ok.gov)) and click the OK Voter Portal to check their voter information.
Voters can make address and party changes within the same county using the OK Voter Portal. All changes must be submitted online by midnight on June 3, 2022.
“Voters who have moved to another county or have a name change can use the OK Voter Portal but be sure to print, sign, and mail the application to the County Election Board to complete the process. All mail applications must be postmarked by June 3, 2022.”
All party changes will be on hold. Changing party affiliation is not allowed from April 1 through August 31. All requests to change party affiliation received or postmarked after March 31 will be processed after August 31.
