Lydia Jean Powell-Lara, a resident of Snyder, died July 4, 2023, in Snyder at the age of 63. She was born Oct. 9, 1959, in Talihina, to Louise (Smith) Harjo and Bennie McDermot.
Lydia spent her formative years in the Dustin area, where she attended Ryal-Graham School. Lydia bravely served in the US Army as a material control and accounting specialist. After her service, she transitioned into the medical field where she worked as a Certified Nurses Aid and Certified Medication Aid. She married Aniseto "Pete" Lara Oct. 9, 2008 in Tillman County.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Thomasena Watson and son Anthony Watson, her parents, Louise (Smith) Harjo and Bennie McDermott, her brother, Johnny Powell, and her sisters, Norma Kay Powell and Polly Powell.
Lydia is survived by her husband Pete Lara; son, Richard Morgan, and daughter, Justina Powell; grandchildren: Mekko Smith, Jaide Smith, and Blain Morgan; sisters, Nellie Powell and Jensie (Powell) Jimboy; cousins, Roman Powell and Jerry Powell.
Pallbearers will be: Joe Looney, Johnny Powell Jr., Stephan Powell, Michael Thierry, Caleb Thierry, Mason Falling and Nicoma Falling
Honorary Pallbearers: Harvie Fry Jr., James Fry, Mekko Smith, Lambert Tisho Jr., Solomon Morgan, Todd Morgan and Dennis Mitchell Jr.
Viewing for Lydia will beJuly 9, 2023 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Integrity Funeral Service. A wake service will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 7 p.m. at the Yardeka Indian Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Yardeka Indian Baptist Church with Reverend Wallace Gambler officiating. Burial will follow the service at Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the United States Army from Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
