Richard Dansby Carter, a resident of Dewar, died July 28, 2023, in Dewar at the age of 91. He was born jan. 4, 1932, in Kinta.
Richard married Erma Carter in 1954 in Spiro. Their union was blessed with four children, Carroll Carter and his wife Diane of Henryetta, Alice Ann McGowen and her husband Mike of Dewar, and Eric Carter and his wife Denise of Dewar. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Carter, a son, Phillip D. Carter, and a grandson, Austin Carter.
He graduated with his Master's degree from East Central University in Ada. Richard taught for 32 years until his retirement in 1986. Most of his time teaching was spent at Dewar Public Schools, where he served in a variety of roles, including teacher, bus driver, and Principal. He was a member of the Dewar First Baptist Church.
At the family's request, there will be no formal visitation or viewing at the funeral home. The casket will be present but will remain closed. However, anyone is welcome to stop and sign the guest book and a memorial video will be available to view.
Pallbearers will be, Ryan Carter, Mitch McGowen, Micah McGowen, Ki Fields, Brandon Holland, & Gabriel Hebert.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023 at Dewar First Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Wells officiating. Interment will follow in New Sonora Cemetery under direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
