Henryetta’s disc golf course is going to be busy this weekend as some 200 men and women will be competing in the state championship tournament.
This is the fifth year for the event and is going to have golfers from all over the United States coming to town. “One touring pro that came down a few weeks ago is coming back for this. We have people from as far away as Connecticut who will be playing,” said Joshua Craig. One of the players expected to be in the tournament is a world champion from Tulsa.
The tournament is open to players from children to senior citizens with several categories set up in each group.
“We try to hold four tournaments each year. The next major tournament will be in May,
According to Craig who developed the course, Nichols Park is one of the top-rated courses in the state. “We carry a 4.5 rating and there is no other course in the state that is higher.” The course is open to the general public when there is no tournament.
This past week a number of tournament players have already been in Henryetta getting familiar with the course.

During the tournament, there will be opportunities for local residents to participate in some contests including small disc. There will be some clinics and people on hand Saturday only starting that morning.
Speaking to Rotary club members he said his organization will be working with the club for their annual tournament that is scheduled for next spring.
He said the public is invited to watch the golfers and even walk with them around the course. “The park will be open while the tournament is going on,” he said.
