Three sewer line projects that have been on hold for several years may get funded.
At a special meeting Thursday afternoon, city council members approved a resolution to apply for a grant from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB).
If approved, the city could receive up to $999,999 for the work.
According to Bill Myers, the engineer that would oversee the work, the money is called a principal forgiveness loan. That means, if approved the city would not have to repay the principal amount used in the grant.
He said the city needed to get the application in by March 15 to meet a point deadline.
“They (OWRB) rate this on a point system,” Myers said. He said out of a possible 500 points, meeting the March 15 date would give the city 400 points. Also included in the decision is the income level of the community. Henryetta is considered a tier 1 level.BROADWAY
Myers said the engineering and environmental work has already been done for those projects.
They include a line along South 14th Street then going east to 12th Street, replacing a clay pipe line from Fourth to Third streets in front of Homeland and a line on the south side of Henryetta crossing West Corporation and 10th Street.
Because of the March 15 deadline, council members had to hold that special meeting at noon. Vice-mayor Steve Sanford chaired that meeting.
