Henryetta school officials are calling records being dumped in a trash pile a mistake and are in the process of getting those records shredded.
dump siteThe issue came to light Tuesday night when some children brought armloads of records including copies of birth certificates and even copied social security numbers to their parents at football practice.
Those records were found in a pile of debris on school property that is normally fenced off with a locked gate.
"We will be shredding these records," said Rick Enis. "We have contacted a company out of Tulsa that brings in a truck with a large shredder." He admitted those records should have been shredded a long time ago.
Superintendent Dwayne Noble said the boxes containing those records were mixed in with others containing trash and were hauled off to the dump site. He said at first the papers were old test scores. Eyewitness statements and photos taken Tuesday night revealed much more personal information was included in the trash.
One of the parents at the football practice gathered up the school records and turned them over to school officials.
trash pileThat dump has apparently been used by the school for a number of years with broken chairs as well as brush, lumber and other debris littering the area. It is located down a hillside away from a roadway.
School board president James Williams said the dump site should be cleaned up and trash and school records disposed of properly.
